If you’re feeling brave, you might want to track down the 99 Nights in the Woods Owl, one of the two secondary antagonists in the game, though we much prefer the idea of running away from it. Whatever you want to do, it’s important to know your enemy, especially as the Owl moves even faster than the Deer, which is a simply terrifying prospect, to be honest.

To help increase your chances of survival, we offer tips on how to survive your encounter with the 99 Nights in the Forest monster, along with its behaviors and where you can actually find it. Unfortunately, knowledge isn’t exactly everything in this game, as you need supplies, too, but our list of all the new 99 Nights in the Forest codes can help you with that.

Here’s everything you need to know about the 99 Nights in the Forest Owl:

What is the 99 Nights in the Forest Owl?

The Owl is an extremely hostile entity, being one of the three monsters in the game, and one of the two secondary antagonists alongside the Ram. If the Owl spawns, it presents you with a detection minigame. If you stand still, it can’t detect you, but if you give yourself away by moving too much, that’s when the Owl gives chase. Beware, this entity doesn’t always play fair, as it can summon wolves to force you to keep moving.

Where does the 99 Nights in the Forest Owl spawn?

The Owl can spawn in both the forest and the snow biome at night. When night begins, a small cutscene plays, letting you know which entity is out to get you – if it’s the Owl, you’ll see the words “the Owl has woken up.” Luckily for you, if the Owl is present, the Deer isn’t, so you don’t need to worry about two monsters at the same time.

What is the 99 Nights in the Forest Owl’s behavior?

The Owl lands near you and stands still to look for you, and you can see your detection level through the eyes that appear on screen. If they’re white, it can’t see you, if they turn completely red, the Owl becomes aware of your presence, causing it to chase after you.

Much like the Ram and the Deer, you can stun the Owl with a flashlight, and the campfire also stuns it. However, it’s worth noting that the Owl generally moves faster than the Deer and even players who are sprinting, unless they have the Assassin or Alien classes. As such, the Owl can be very difficult to escape.

Can I kill the 99 Nights in the Forest Owl?

No, you can’t kill the Owl, so do yourself a favor and conserve the ammo you have for your weapons. The Owl doesn’t even have an HP bar, just like the other two monsters, making it immortal. Still, as we already mentioned, you can stun it with your flashlight, which can buy you some precious seconds as you try to escape the entity.

99 Nights in the Forest Owl tips

Overcoming the Owl involves surviving the whole night when it spawns, but since you can’t kill it, it’s time to get creative. Luckily, there are some things that you can do to give you an advantage and increase your chances of survival.

Here are our tips on how to survive the 99 Nights in the Forest Owl:

  1. Whatever you do, don’t move during the detection minigame. If the Owl doesn’t summon wolves, this is all you need to do to survive the night
  2. If the Owl does spawn wolves, you can use swinging weapons to defend yourself, as they don’t alert the Owl during the minigame
  3. You can stun the Owl by shining your flashlight at it, and you can also get the Owl stuck on obstacles thanks to its poor pathfinding capabilities – something it has in common with the Deer
