Nintendo Store app goes live on iPhone and Android, and you need to see its best feature
Xbox, PlayStation, Steam, and Epic Games all have applications you download to your phone, but Nintendo has always been oddly lacking in this area. Yeah, there’s Nintendo Today and Nintendo Music, but what about buying games? Finally, the Nintendo Store app is here, giving you another storefront to access on your Android or iPhone. If you go exploring, though, there’s a really nifty feature that can take you on a trip down memory lane.
Right now, you can head to the App Store or Google Play to download the Nintendo Store application. Like the online equivalent, you can easily buy new Switch games, add free Switch games to your library, and even browse accessories. If there’s a specific Nintendo Switch controller you’re after, for example, it’s likely ready and waiting for you. However, if you happen to own a Nintendo Wii, Wii U, or even a Nintendo 3DS, then this is where the app gets particularly awesome.
Similar to how the PlayStation and Xbox apps let you view your playtime, the Nintendo Store app takes it one step further. If you merge your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo account, it’ll add all your Wii, Wii U, and 3DS games into your library, alongside data on how long you played these titles for. It’s a major nostalgia trip for those of you looking to see how many hours you’re capable of racking up on Wii Sports Resort or Mario Kart Wii.
What makes it even more detailed is how it displays exact instances of when you’ve been playing certain games, with dates and timestamps to examine. It’s pretty amusing to see nearly four hours of Fortnite racked up in one session recently. Whether I’m using my Nintendo Switch 2 as a side device to use XP farm maps, well, that’s none of your business. Shout out to Squid Game Tycoon is all I’ll say.

Accompanying this feature are some location-based touches that make it worth downloading. Should you happen to visit a Nintendo Store in real life, you can use the app to check in at the location, with the potential to bag some rewards in the process. Of course, like the Nintendo Today app, the latest news on events and game updates appears regularly. But you can get those over the Pocket Tactics Discord server. Wink wink.
