There are a variety of 99 Nights in the Forest monsters and entities that you meet throughout the game. Some, like the rabbit, are entirely passive and won’t fight back even if you damage them. On the other hand, many are far more aggressive, and will attack and pursue you when you get within range – and, of course, three of them are entirely immortal, meaning your only chance of survival is getting out of their way.

In this guide, we cover all the monsters, animals, missing children, and other entities in the game, including their damage and walkspeed, spawn locations, drops, and more, so you can prepare yourself for the fight ahead. You can also check out our list of all the new 99 Nights in the Forest codes if you’re looking for a little extra help to make it through the night.

Here’s everything you need to know about all the 99 Nights in the Forest monsters and entities:

All 99 Nights in the Forest monsters

There are three monsters in 99 Nights in the Forest: the Deer, the Owl, and the Ram. They each have different spawn locations and behaviors, but the one main thing they have in common is that they’re all immortal, so, unlike other hostile entities, you can’t kill them.

Here are all of the 99 Nights in the Forest monsters:

99 Nights in the Forest monsters - the Deer

The Deer

Behavior: hostile
HP: N/A (immortal)
Damage: 25+ (increases with day count and hunger)
Walkspeed: 35+ (increases with day count and hunger)
Spawn location: the forest (night only)

The Deer is the main antagonist of the game and is generally incredibly hostile. When it spots you wandering too far from the campfire, it will relentlessly pursue you, and you can only stop it by shining your flashlight on it or returning to the safety of your camp. It occasionally enters a frenzied ‘hungry’ state, during which its speed and damage increase dramatically, making it incredibly dangerous.

If you want to learn more about this monster, its behaviors, and how to escape it, be sure to check out our full 99 Nights in the Forest Deer guide.

99 Nights in the Forest monsters - the Owl

The Owl

Behavior: hostile
HP: N/A (immortal)
Damage: 25+ (increases with day count)
Walkspeed: 45
Spawn location: the forest or the snow biome (night only)

The Owl is one of the secondary antagonists in the game, alongside the Ram. It inhabits the snow biome, and there’s a chance for it to spawn when night begins, replacing the Deer. When the Owl spawns, it triggers a unique stealth minigame where you must stay still to avoid it spotting you. If it catches you or your teammates moving too much, it will begin to chase and attack the nearest player. Like the Deer, you can stun it with your flashlight or by running back to the campfire.

It’s a pretty intimidating creature to face, but we’ve got plenty of information on its behavior and tips to help you survive its attacks in our full 99 Nights in the Forest Owl guide.

99 Nights in the Forest - the Ram

The Ram

Behavior: hostile
HP: N/A (immortal)
Damage: 25+ (increases with day count)
Walkspeed: 45
Spawn location: the forest or the volcanic biome (night only)

The Ram is another of the secondary antagonists of the game, alongside the Owl. It inhabits the volcanic biome, and there’s a chance for it to spawn when the night begins, replacing the Deer. The Ram’s behavior is similar to that of the Deer, in that it chases you whenever it spots you too far from the campfire at night, and you can stun it with your flashlight for a brief time. However, the Ram also has a unique attack where it pauses for a moment, charges up, then rushes towards you, dealing damage to all players and knocking down all trees in its path.

Luckily, while the Ram is still a formidable foe, dodging its charges isn’t too difficult. You can learn all about the best strategies for this in our full 99 Nights in the Forest Ram guide.

99 Nights in the Forest animals

There are several different animals in the game. Some are passive, while others are hostile. Hunting and killing animals can reward you with a variety of items, and certain 99 Nights in the Forest classes give you special bonuses related to this.

Here are all of the 99 Nights in the Forest animals:

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the bunny
Bunny
Behavior: passive
HP: 50
Damage: N/A
Walkspeed: 12
Possible drops: one or two morsels. Also has a 1/6 chance to drop one bunny foot
Spawn locations: the forest biome
Taming cost: one carrot

Bunnies are passive entities that run around aimlessly unless you damage them, at which point they’ll try to run away.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the horse
Horse
Behavior: passive
HP: est. 500
Damage: N/A
Walkspeed: N/A
Drops: one or two steaks
Spawn location: in the forest alongside the Furniture Trader
Taming cost: N/A

The horse is a unique passive entity that can only spawn with the Furniture Trader. It carries a large, purple wagon and occasionally stops to eat grass.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the kiwi
Kiwi
Behavior: passive
HP: N/A (immortal)
Damage: 0
Walkspeed: 0
Drops: N/A
Spawn location: in the kiwi burrow near the level six campfire area
Taming cost: one berry

The kiwi is a unique but essentially useless animal that arrived during the taming update. You can tame it using any taming flute and one berry, and it only requires one mood level to be satisfied. However, it won’t engage in combat with other entities, doesn’t provide any boosts or buffs, and, as it doesn’t move, you can simply pick it up and place it in your sack once you’ve tamed it.

We’re unsure whether the kiwi will gain more purpose in future 99 Nights in the Forest updates, but, for now, it’s just a cute but useless little creature.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the wolf
Wolf
Behavior: hostile
HP: 75
Damage: 20
Walkspeed: 23
Normal drops: two to three morsels, one steak, and one wolf pelt
Guardian drops: two to three morsels, one steak, and up to one red key
Spawn location: the forest, snow, and volcanic biomes
Taming cost: three steaks and three morsels

Wolves are one of the most common hostile entities in the game, wandering the different biomes aimlessly until you enter their detection radius or damage them. After that, they will chase you until you die or escape their detection radius. Wolves can spawn in any location at night, but will only spawn at the locked caves and the large cabin in the forest during the day.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the alpha wolf
Alpha wolf
Behavior: hostile
HP: 125
Damage: 25
Walkspeed: 26
Normal drops: two to three morsels, one steak, and up to one alpha wolf pelt
Guardian drops: up to one blue key
Spawn location: the snow biome at night, or in the forest when you have a level 3-5 campfire
Taming cost: four steaks, four mackerels, and four salmon

Alpha wolves are very similar to normal wolves, but are much tankier and deal a lot more damage. They wander aimlessly unless you damage them or enter their detection range, at which point they will chase you until you escape their detection radius or die. Alpha wolves can spawn in any location at night, but will only spawn at the locked caves and the cultist hunter camp during the day.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the bear
Bear
Behavior: hostile
HP: 300
Damage: 40
Walkspeed: 28
Normal drops: six morsels, three or four steaks, and up to one bear pelt
Guardian drops: one yellow key and one grey key
Spawn location: the forest
Taming cost: five steaks, five pumpkins, and five salmon

Like other hostile entities, bears wander the forest aimlessly until you get close to them or deal damage to them. After this, they’ll chase you down and try to attack you until you either die or exit their detection radius. They can spawn in the forest if you have a level three or higher and five or higher campfire, and will also spawn at the locked caves and the cultist hunter camp.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the polar bear
Polar bear
Behavior: hostile
HP: 500
Damage: 50
Walkspeed: 28
Drops: seven to eight morsels, three to four steaks, and up to one polar bear pelt
Spawn location: the polar bear cave in the snow biome
Taming cost: five ribs, five stew, and five swordfish

The polar bear is a more powerful version of the regular bear. They wander around the snow biome until they detect you, then begin to pursue and attack you until you either die or exit their detection radius.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the arctic fox
Arctic fox
Behavior: hostile
HP: 80
Damage: 12
Walkspeed: 27
Drops: one to two morsels and up to one arctic fox pelt
Spawn location: snow biome
Taming cost: three steaks and three chilli

Arctic foxes are hostile entities that often hunt in packs of two to five, though they do occasionally spawn alone. If you damage one or enter its detection radius, it will run towards you and attack until all players have left its detection radius. When in a pack, they will team up on their targets.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the frog
Frogs
Behavior: hostile
HP: TBC
Damage: five (plus additional poison damage over time)
Drops: one morsel and up to one frog key
Spawn location: by ponds and the frog cave in the forest
Taming cost: two mackerels

Frogs are hostile entities that arrived during the Frog Invasion Update. They aren’t guaranteed to spawn every run. If they do spawn, they emerge from the ponds ten minutes after the start of the match, using their tongues to attack and inflict the poison effect. There are four different types of frog, with some stronger than others. When you kill a frog, it spawns two frogs of the next weaker type.

Here are the different types of 99NitF frogs, from strongest to weakest:

  • Frog king / orange frog (strongest)
  • Purple frog
  • Blue frog
  • Green frog (weakest)

Once you’ve collected eight frog keys – either by killing frogs or through 99 Nights in the Forest’s fishing system – you can then enter the frog cave, where you must face many waves of frogs in order to get to and open the special frog chest.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the scorpion
Scorpion
Behavior: hostile
HP: 50
Damage:20 (plus additional poison damage over time)
Walkspeed: 20 (30 if from the scorpion nest)
Drops: up to one morsel and up to one scorpion shell
Spawn location: the volcanic biome
Taming cost: two steaks and two morsels

Scorpions are hostile entities that chase and attack you if you enter their detection radius or deal damage to them. They will stop their pursuit if you get out of their detection radius or too close to a campfire. Like frogs, scorpions are capable of dealing extra damage through poison, and they can spawn in both the scorpion nest and the scorpion pit in the volcanic biome.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the mammoth
Mammoth
Behavior: neutral
HP: 800
Damage: 30
Walkspeed: 20
Drops: eight or nine steaks, two ribs, and up to one mammoth tusk
Spawn location: the snow biome
Taming cost: ten pumpkins and five cakes

The mammoth is a rare neutral enemy. They won’t attack unless you deal damage to them, at which point they charge at you and attack whenever you’re in range. They also have the ability to knock players away.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the mammoth
Hellephant
Behavior: hostile
HP: 500
Damage: 30
Walkspeed: 20
Drops: eight or nine cooked steaks, up to two cooked ribs, and up to one mammoth tusk
Spawn location: the hellephant ritual circle in the volcanic biome
Taming cost: ten pumpkins and five cakes

Sometimes referred to as the ‘lava mammoth’, the hellephant looks very similar to the mammoth, but red. It acts similarly to other hostile entities, wandering aimlessly until you enter its detection radius or deal damage to it. After this, it will chase you down and deal damage when in range. Due to its size, the hellephant can get caught on objects like trees and buildings and lose interest, even if you’re still in its detection radius.

99 Nights in the Forest animals: the meteor crab
Meteor crab
Behavior: hostile
HP: 75
Damage: TBC
Drops: one or two morsel?, up to two meteor shards, and up to one gold shard
Spawn location: a meteor crater or the meteor tool workshop
Taming cost: N/A

Meteor crabs are hostile entities that spawn alone or in pairs, emerging from grey crystals around meteor craters. Up to seven of these craters appear when the game displays the message ‘the sky is on fire’, which has a chance to happen during night at the three-day mark around the level one to two campfire area. Alternatively, meteor crabs may spawn in the meteor tool workshop (otherwise known as the damaged tool workshop), which replaced the normal tool workshop during the Meteor Shower Update.

Meteor crabs drop the unique item ‘morsel?’ on death, which is an alternative version of the standard morsel. However, other than the name and unusual, purple-ish color, they’re exactly the same as a regular morsel, so don’t be scared to use them.

Other 99 Nights in the Forest entities

The main monsters and aggressive animals aren’t the only foes you’ll face in 99NitF – there are also several different human enemies and extraterrestrials that you may encounter while combing the forest for clues.

Here are all of the other 99 Nights in the Forest entities:

99 Nights in the Forest monsters and entities: an elite alien with a sword and a normal alien with a raygun

Aliens

Behavior: hostile
Max health: medium
Damage: 10+
Walkspeed: 16
Possible weapons: raygun, laser sword, or laser cannon (mothership raid)

Aliens are entities that can spawn on the second night of a 99 Nights in the Forest run. You’ll know they’re coming, as the game will inform you that “something mysterious is flying above you.” After that, multiple UFOs fly over you, with some flashing red and crashing nearby. During this event, two to four crashed UFOs will appear on your map, and several normal aliens will appear around them.

One of the crashed UFOs will glow green, which indicates that you can use it to access the mothership. If you enter this ship, the door on the right opens, allowing you to hop on a teleport pad and enter the mothership. Inside the mothership, you’ll find several large, grey-skinned aliens known as alien elites, which have higher health and damage than regular aliens. After killing one, you can hold up its dead body to a scanner to unlock the next room. Only one can spawn in each room except the final room.

This may sound like a lot of work, but the mothership UFO can provide you with a lot of handy items, including powerful 99 Nights in the Forest weapons, crafting materials, and more.

99 Nights in the Forest monsters and entities: a normal cultist, a juggernaut cultist, and a crossbow cultist

Cultists

Cultists are the supporting antagonists of 99NitF, and seem to worship the Deer. You can often find them in buildings that contain valuable items. You can also encounter them during the cultist raids that occur around every four nights, during which they attack the campfire.

The first raid always happens on the fourth day/night cycle. You’ll know it’s coming as a red info bar pops up at the top of your screen. If you click on it, the game will notify you that “something evil is approaching your campfire… it arrives tonight.” After that, your usual “night is approaching” message will instead say “you will be attacked tonight, return to your campfire.”, and you’ll get a final message reminding you shortly before the cultists and the Deer arrive.

After the first raid, a new raid occurs every 20 minutes or so, and comes with stronger cultists. After you’ve survived all 99 nights, you must survive one final raid. Killing the last cultist during the final raid earns you the gem of the forest item.

There are several different types of cultists, and they can wield four different weapons, each dealing a different amount of damage.

Here are the different types of 99 Nights in the Forest cultists:

  • Melee – the most common form, melee cultists wear brown jackets and can carry old axes, spears, and morningstars
  • Crossbow – the second most common, crossbow cultists wear red jackets and, as the name suggests, always carry crossbows
  • Juggernaut – a rare type of cultist, juggernauts wear a red metal helmet, a red shirt, and a black jacket. They exclusively wield morningstars, but deal far more damage and are much tankier than normal cultists
  • Mega cultists – a rare, larger version of the standard melee cultist, mega cultists have red skin but otherwise look the same as their normal counterparts. Only admins can spawn these in, most commonly during update parties. They carry morningstars, and are generally very strong, taking multiple laser cannon shots to kill

When you defeat a cultist, there are a variety of different items that they can drop. Here are the basic cultists’ possible drops:

  • Up to one revolver ammo
  • Up to one rifle ammo
  • Up to one mossy coin

Here are the possible drops you can get if you kill the last cultist in a location or raid:

The four 99 Nights in the Forest missing children posters showing Dino Kid, Kraken Kid, Squid Kid, and Koala Kid

99 Nights in the Forest missing children

In 99NitF, there are four missing children, and one of your main objectives is to rescue them. Once you do, they settle within the campfire radius and set up a tent.

Here are all of the 99 Nights in the Forest missing children:

Dino Kid

You can find Dino Kid guarded by five regular wolves wearing red collars after upgrading your campfire to level two or three and obtaining the red key. Dino Kid wears a red dinosaur hat, a white shirt, and blue pants. He was sitting on a log in the forest when the Deer snuck up behind him, grabbed him, and hid him in the red cave.

Kraken Kid

Five alpha wolves guard Kraken Kid, and you can generally find her after getting your campfire to level four or five. You need the blue key to free her. She wears a blue kraken hat, a white shirt, and light grey pants. She was sitting on the edge of a pier when the deer emerged from the water and kidnapped her, dragging her into the water and locking her in a blue room.

Squid Kid

The third of the four missing kids, you can rescue Kraken Kid after you rescue Squid Kid and upgrade your campfire to level five. You need to get a yellow key, then open the yellow cave guarded by two bears. Squid Kid wears a yellow squid hat, a striped yellow and blue shirt, and light pants. The Deer found him in a cave after he’d gotten lost in the forest, after which it took him away to the yellow room.

Koala Kid

Koala Kid is the last of the four missing children, and you can find her in a gray cave guarded by six bears after you upgrade your campfire to level six. As you can probably guess by now, you need a gray key to get her out. She wears a brown koala hat, a brown shirt and shorts, and cute slippers. The Deer found her while she was hiding in a bush after running away from it.
