Some Arc Raiders players feel cheated by the rewards for participating in the game’s first Expedition Project – essentially the first major voluntary character wipe – and others are just happy to have the option to reset and start collecting again.
Arc Raiders studio Embark has been pretty transparent from the start what the expedition project is and it will remain that way: an option for raiders who feel like they’ve seen and done everything to start all over again. Again, it’s voluntary, so you have the choice to ignore the whole thing and keep doing what you’re doing, but for those who choose to participate, there are some rewards. And that’s the thing: there are a lot of players who feel like the rewards aren’t worth it.
Another Redditor shared their own reaction to the new cosmetics, saying that it’s “kind of a shame” that the only customization options available for the outfit are toggles to turn off the goggles and headpiece, while other outfits allow you to change various elements. That seems to be the most common complaint from the contingent of Arc Raiders players who are firmly on the “not worth it” side of the debate.
“I don’t care about top level weapons, I’m good with stitcher, ferrous and anvil,” said another disgruntled robber. “However, not having workbenches and then having to upgrade again for premium attachments or higher level utilities is more cumbersome than I expected. It turns out that I just don’t feel like going through all that ‘collecting’ anymore and just focus on PVP, where ideally you already have everything in place to quickly make things that give you a slight edge in PVP. So for now, until I find the right motivation… I have to admit that I’ve put myself in a position where I’m less motivated to do so. am. play.
I wouldn’t do an expedition again.”
On the other hand, most of the top comments on the embedded Reddit thread above support expeditions as an option (not a requirement) to reset progress.
“Honestly, I understand why people complain that it’s not worth it, but as a gamer in my 30s, I find this whole mentality funny,” he said. a gamer in his thirties. “The Expedition is a voluntary reset. It is a ‘prestige’ mechanism for people who have already seen and done it all.
“Why do we treat a video game like a 401k? If you’re not having fun using your gear because you’re worried about the “value” you’ll lose upon resetting, you’ve stopped playing a game and started a second job.
Other players feel downright liberated.
“Honestly, resetting feels more liberating than I thought. I’m pretty glad I did it. Starting from scratch with the knowledge I have now, if it’s going to be a whole new experience,” said one. “And yeah, the skin is cool. Glad I got it.”
It seems the confusion at the center of the divide here is whether the point of the expeditions themselves is the character reset or the rewards waiting on the other side. It seems like there are enough who feel the rewards didn’t justify the sacrifice to possibly make Embark reconsider those rewards, while others view the expeditions as just an optional swipe with the potential for nominal loot and perks that serve as bonuses. Basically, a half glass empty versus half full type of deal.
Arc Raiders and The Alters would have been my GOTY picks until I discovered the depressing thing they have in common
