Chinese game studio Hypergryph is working to fix balance issues in their upcoming free-to-play RPG Arknights: Endfield ahead of its second beta test on November 28. The 3D action game is a spinoff of the studio’s popular mobile tower defense title Arknights, though a full release date hasn’t been announced yet.

At a media conference on November 10, the development team discussed changes they’ve made based on feedback from the first beta test. The main concern they’re addressing is what they call “party composition issues” – basically, players quickly figured out which characters and strategies worked best, and everyone ended up using the same setups.

According to the developers, this wasn’t how they wanted people to play the game. To fix this, they’ve added new battle mechanics and elements that allow for more variety in team building. The goal is to make it possible to create strong, enjoyable teams using both common and rare characters together.

The developers say this approach mirrors the original 2019 Arknights game. Even though that game uses a gacha system where players collect characters, it doesn’t force people to rely only on rare characters to succeed. Skilled players can build effective teams using just the easily obtainable low-rarity Operators, and Hypergryph wants Endfield to work the same way.

While Endfield limits parties to four active members compared to the original game’s larger squads, the developers indicate that common characters will remain useful, especially as more characters get added to the roster. Arknights: Endfield is being developed for PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices and the second beta test begins November 28.
