If you’ve played The Outer Worlds 2, you may have enjoyed some entertaining monologues on the radio. Tim Cain, Fallout co-creator and co-director of the first The Outer Worlds, provided some writing work for Obsidian’s intrepid sequel, and he’s starting to wonder why he was the perfect man for the job.
“Leonard [Boyarsky] asked me to do something for Outer Worlds 2. He said, ‘Hey, could you write some radio lectures?’ I’m like, ‘Sure I can do that,'” Cain recalls in a video. “Then he said, ‘Can you make them all mathematical and full of obscure terms and jargon?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah I can do that.'”
The requests didn’t stop there, though. “And then he said, ‘Can you make the professor sound full of themselves, and really derisive?'” Cain remembers, “and I said, ‘Sure I can… wait, why are you asking me to do this?'”

The penny drops! Cain’s grown a strong following on YouTube in recent years thanks to his regular videos on game development and the industry at large. His videos, often over 10 minutes, combine his expansive knowledge of game development with insights into narrative design and other aspects of creativity.
Given that his videos are all simply him talking, no cuts, they do resemble lectures at times, making him an ideal choice to pen something similar for The Outer Worlds 2. He provides scripts for the Order of the Ascendant’s airwaves, since they’re obsessed by numbers and believe maths will unlock the secrets of the universe.
Cain always comes across more entertaining to me, but maybe that’s the point – he can make something dry seem fascinating. The Order could definitely use a representative like him, though he might be put off contributing more in future installments.
The Outer Worlds 2’s Skyrim easter egg is one of its most useful items if you haven’t invested in stealth points.
