Honkai Star Rail gives you the choice of another epic character for free this patch

As we ease ourselves into the waters of Honkai Star Rail’s 3.7 update, there’s one freebie that we’re super happy about. As part of the update’s new events, you can get a ‘Golden Companion Spirit’, which you use in the shop to unlock a five-star character completely free of charge. Simply amazing, if you ask me.

Along with the free Spirit, there’s a new addition to the pool of characters you can choose with it: Topaz (and Numby) now appear alongside the standard five-stars, Luocha, and Ruan Mei.

Topaz and her adorable Warp Trotter, Numby, are a key component of teams for Feixiao, especially in the FART comp. You know, Feixiao, Aventurine, Robin, and Topaz? She works really well with Dr Ratio, Clara, and in a mono-fire comp if you want to burn through the competition.

You can get some great units for free here – my personal recommendation is Ruan Mei, if you don’t already have her. She’s a break damage buffer and is an absolute cornerstone in my Boothill team, but to be honest, she works with any DPS, as she can add some extra damage across the board.

Luocha is also another excellent option. Sure, Huo Huo gives some nice buffs, yadda yadda – but Luocha’s deployable healing field (which doesn’t consume a skill point!) comes in the clutch in so many battles. Seriously, he’s saved my skin against so many bosses while Aventurine is part of the other Memory of Chaos team.

For me, I’m glad these free unlocks roll around, as the Honkai Star Rail banners are consistently adding new five-stars every patch – without any four-stars, I might add – and my pulls cannot keep up. I might honestly use this one to get an E5 Welt, though, as I do own all the other characters. Maybe I’ll E6 my Yanqing, who knows? Why not, right?

Regardless of which characters top the Honkai Star Rail tier list, you can play whoever you want, and pull for who you think is cool using the new Honkai Star Rail codes, too.
