Sony and NCSoft Reveal Horizon Steel Frontiers, a New MMORPG for PC and Mobile
Sony has teamed up with NCSoft to create Horizon Steel Frontiers, a brand-new MMORPG based on the acclaimed Horizon series. Designed specifically for mobile, this marks the first large-scale online entry in the franchise’s post-apocalyptic world.

A leaked 10-minute pre-announcement video shows cinematic scenes, pre-alpha gameplay, and developer commentary. Players take the role of machine hunters exploring lush landscapes and battling enormous mechanical beasts. The game emphasizes cooperation and competition among thousands of players in a shared world.
A Frontier Built for Mobile
Jan-Bart van Beek, studio director at PlayStation’s Guerrilla Games, described Steel Frontiers as a “full-fledged MMORPG built specifically for mobile.” Players explore a deadly region called the Deathlands, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico.

Hunters can team up to take down massive machines or fight rival tribes for control over resources. “With Steel Frontiers, you can step into this world anywhere, anytime,” said van Beek. “The mix of teamwork and rivalry creates moments you could never script.”
The Thrill of the Hunt
Executive producer Sung-Gu Lee highlighted the game’s focus on the thrill of hunting colossal machines, the signature experience of the Horizon series. The team introduces new mechanics, including mount-based transport and collecting dropped weapons from defeated beasts for later battles.

“Hunting massive machines was one of the greatest appeals of the original Horizon games,” Lee said. “Now we’re expanding that excitement into the MMORPG genre.”
Create Your Own Hunter

Unlike previous Horizon titles featuring Aloy, Steel Frontiers lets players customize their own hunter. You can design their appearance, gear, and playstyle — offering a fresh way to experience the world.
Platforms and Release

Horizon Steel Frontiers will launch on PC, iOS, and Android, though Sony hasn’t confirmed a release date. Lee mentioned that the team aims to make the game available “as soon as possible.” The official reveal is expected at G-Star 2025 in Korea later tonight, where fans may finally see the first full trailer.
