Thanksgiving looms, but that doesn’t mean you have to break out the same old tired board games. Banish Monopoly back to the cupboard; plenty of must-have titles are enjoying surprisingly good price cuts this week ahead of the holiday, so they’re perfect for any family gathering you have planned.
I’ve been reviewing board games for the best part of a decade now, and many of the ones I think should be on everyone’s shelf are discounted with early Black Friday savings. I genuinely feel that these are some of the best board games ever made (fight me on that), so it’s well worth adding them to the lineup if you haven’t already. Because they have a Black Friday board game deals tag as well, they shouldn’t theoretically drop any more in cost before the full sale next week.
Wondering which of the above are worth digging into? It depends on what you want from your games night. If you’d like an easy-going time with a hint of strategy, Ticket to Ride, Azul, or Carcassonne are the perfect choice. They’re fairly laid-back on the whole, but you can still forge your own path to victory with some clever decisions.
Prefer more in-depth strategy, on the other hand? Catan and 7 Wonders are where it’s at. These require a bit more brain-power but pay back the investment tenfold with a gripping race to the finish-line.
As for team-players, Pandemic and Mysterium are the way to go. They require you to work as a group to achieve victory, so good communication is vital. Few games will bring you all together like these.
