Remedy has filed a trademark for “Control Resonant” in Europe, and given The Game Awards are mere weeks away, it has speculation running rampant.
Control is over half a decade old now, which definitely isn’t making me feel ancient. But since then, Remedy has kept busy with Alan Wake 2, FBC Firebreak, and the upcoming Max Payne remakes. And while we’ve known Control 2 is coming for a number of years now, details have been relatively thin. However, back in February, it was confirmed that Control 2 entered “full production.”
And now, a trademark (via MP1st) was filed for “Control Resonance” in Europe. While Remedy’s name isn’t included in the filing, it was filed by “Nordia Attorneys at Law Ltd”, which, per Remedy’s website (spotted by RockPaperShotgun), has worked with the studio before. The trademark comes under several tags, including for video games as well as TV and film. Given Remedy’s partnership with Annapurna to help with development on Control 2, as well as work on other media projects, this could be the name of an upcoming non-game project.
This comes just weeks before The Game Awards 2025. Given that Alan Wake 2 was first announced at The Game Awards back in 2021, it wouldn’t be out of character for Remedy to show off its upcoming titles at the show, and if this is, in fact, a trademark for Control 2, there could be a pretty solid chance of it showing up at the Keighleys.
Of course, Remedy is also working on the Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes for Rockstar, and if Control 2 only went into full production earlier this year, I’d assume it’s still a while away yet. Alan Wake 2 was announced around 2 years before launch, so if this really is for Control 2, I wouldn’t expect it to release in the near future.
